Osteogenesis imperfecta type II: postmortem histological diagnosis on curettage material
نویسنده
چکیده
manifestations that are regarded nontypical for the full-blown disease. Case report A 35-year-old G2P1 Caucasian woman had her first-trimester ultrasound evaluation. The histological picture was typical of osteogenesis imperfecta type II/III. The combination of severe distortion of the limb bones with rib and limb fractures, in association with the above histopathology, permitted the diagnosis of osteogenesis imperfecta type II. The parents were referred for genetic counselling and molecular confirmation of COL1A1 or COL1A2 mutations. Conclusion This report underscores the utility of histological diagnosis in certain skeletal dysplasias, even in the absence of reliable postmortem radiographic control, as is the case with curettage material in early termination of pregnancy.

Clinical Application of Antenatal Genetic Diagnosis of Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type IV
BACKGROUND Clinical analysis and genetic testing of a family with osteogenesis imperfecta type IV were conducted, aiming to discuss antenatal genetic diagnosis of osteogenesis imperfecta type IV. MATERIAL/METHODS Preliminary genotyping was performed based on clinical characteristics of the family members and then high-throughput sequencing was applied to rapidly and accurately detect the chan...
متن کاملThe prevalence of thanatophoric dysplasia and lethal osteogenesis imperfecta type II in Northern Ireland - a complete population study
The minimum prevalence of lethal Osteogenesis imperfecta type II, thanatophoric dysplasia and achondroplasia were derived following detailed case note review of all perinatal lethal skeletal dysplasias (SD) in Northern Ireland over a 12 year period. Multiple sources of ascertainment, including genetic notes, radiological reports and post mortem findings, were used. 39 cases were identified. Tha...
متن کاملPerinatal lethal type II osteogenesis imperfecta: a case report
We report a new case of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) type II which is a perinatal lethal form. First trimester ultrasound didn't identified abnormalities. Second trimester ultrasound showed incurved limbs, narrow chest, with hypomineralization and multiple fractures of ribs and long bones. Parents refused pregnancy termination; they felt that the diagnosis was late. At birth, the newborn presen...
متن کاملOsteogenesis Imperfecta Due to Compound Heterozygosity for the LEPRE1 Gene
Osteogenesis imperfecta is a rare connective tissue disorder characterized by bone fragility and low bone density. Most cases are caused by an autosomal dominant mutation in either COL1A1 or COL1A2 gene encoding type I collagen. However, autosomal recessive forms have been identified. We present a patient with severe respiratory distress due to osteogenesis imperfecta simulating type II, born t...
متن کاملA case of atypical family form of imperfect osteogenesis (osteogenesis imperfecta)
This article presents an example of prenatal diagnosis of the IIA (lethal) form of imperfect osteogenesis during the second trimester screening examination. At the parents examination external signs of dysembryogenesis in the father are noticed. The further studying of the case allowed to draw the conclusions about the family form of imperfect osteogenesis when the father of a fetus had mild – ...
